Hybrid technology to the fore as Model Year ‘26 Kia Sportage celebrates more than 30-years on Kiwi roads
With a heritage spanning more than 30-years, the Kia Sportage has become a family favourite thanks to exemplary levels of ride and handling, generous interior proportions for passengers and luggage as well as smart technology.
And now, with the new facelift Model Year 2026, the Sportage looks to build on its outstanding pedigree with the introduction of new segment-leading levels of comfort, refinement and an array of fresh specification to complement the introduction of new all-wheel drive Hybrid variants.
Managing Director of Kia New Zealand, Todd McDonald, said “Sportage has established itself as one of Kia’s best-selling models, both here and abroad.
“The new model year offers Kia New Zealand an opportunity to target a wider array of customers, from families through to fleets, thanks to an impressive range of seven different variants available from an attainable $43,990 (+ORC)
“The availability of both Front and All-Wheel Drive systems, a unique line-up of drivetrain options in the segment, is also a significant and attractive point of difference which appeals to customers for whom 2WD is sufficient.
“Furthermore, Sportage stacks up incredibly well and out performs key competitors in terms of power, torque and towing capacity, important ‘top of the list’ attributes for many people when considering the purchase of a new vehicle.
“We’re confident that enhancements to the 5th generation Sportage exterior and interior design, comfort and convenience technology plus additional safety features will help it continue to be one of the best-loved new models available for sale here in New Zealand.”
The new Sportage provides the choice of a powerful Turbo Petrol front-wheel drive, or a new Turbo Petrol Hybrid capable of a combined output of 173kW and 367Nm.
There are four different trim options available, divided into LX, Light, Earth and X-Line, the latter three available as either a Hybrid front-wheel drive or Hybrid all-wheel drive.
All-wheel drive Hybrid models also feature different Terrain modes as standard, including mud, snow or sand, which optimise the Sportage for better traction, stability and control.
The new Sportage’s front end features multiple refreshed design elements that evolve the ‘Opposites United’ philosophy, including front bumper design, vertically stacked star map headlights, bold indicator lights and a proud new grille.
Taking design cues from the Sorento, the new Sportage stylishly cements its place as part of the modern Kia range.
The rear design of the new Sportage has been subtly tweaked to appear more contemporary, with redesigned tail-light graphics and revised rear bumper elements that enhance its overall rugged appearance while complementing the new signature front lighting design.
All four trim levels feature new alloy wheel designs ranging in size from 17-inch (LX and Light), 18-inch on Earth though to 19-inch on the X-Line.
Five different exterior colours are available across the line-up, with an exclusive colour available on HEV and X-Line variants respectively (Shadow Matt Grey and Jungle Wood Green).
All 2026 Sportage variants feature a redesigned two-spoke steering wheel, enhancing the interior with a modern and contemporary look.
Additionally, a 12.3-inch Colour Touchscreen Infotainment System is now fitted to all variants, which includes five-years complimentary Kia Connect Services and Over the Air Updates.
Kia Connect provides customer benefits in safety, security, convenience, connectivity and live services by using telematics systems to transfer real-time data, such as weather and traffic information.
Over-the-air (OTA) updates are also now available across the range for the new Sportage. This enables constant wireless improvements, with the latest maps (Earth & X-Line trims only), interfaces and software enhancements, all without customers having to visit a service centre.
The technology suite also brings Kia’s Smart Proximity Key with Push Button Start as standard across the new Sportage range, along with a wireless phone charger for Earth and X-Line models.
The range-topping X-Line also receives further enhancements in the form of a 12.3-inch Colour LCD Supervision Instrument Cluster, while driver convenience and information access has been expanded with the addition of a head-up display (HUD).
The HUD projects critical driving data directly in the driver’s line of sight, helping to minimise driver distraction and keep essential information readily in view.
The X-Line also features a ‘Black Pack’ consisting of visual enhancements to differentiate it from other models in the range, including glossy black roof rails, panoramic power sunroof, alloy pedals, LED interior lights (front and rear) as well as LED front headlights (four cube projection type).
With a family focus in mind, all Sportage come with seven airbags as standard as well as a multitude of active safety systems including Forward Collision Avoidance Assist with Junction Turning Assist, Lane Follow Assist and a Safe Exit Warning feature for alighting from the vehicle.
The new Sportage ICE features a five-year factory warranty, which increases to seven-years for the HEV model, as well as five-year roadside assist.
